Harris Tweed Authority granted coat of arms

The Harris Tweed Authority said it “has received the ultimate seal of approval” from Lord Lyon King of Arms, Dr. Joseph Morrow QC, who has granted the business a coat of arms.

“It means that Harris Tweed, which is defined as cloth, hand woven only by the islanders of Lewis, Harris, Uist and Barra in their own homes, using pure virgin wool that has been dyed and spun in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland, is the only material in the world that can be presented as Harris Tweed and bear its renowned Orb Certification Mark,” said The Harris Tweed Authority.

“It’s the ultimate protection for our cloth, which is known around the world for its quality and beauty.

“It’s a true honour to receive the Grant of Arms from Lord Lyon himself and we very are grateful, as the Guardians of the Orb, to be able to ensure the security of our cloth and its heritage for generations to come.”
