The Scottish Government said £2.025 billion of council tax — 95.7 % of the bills issued — was collected in Scotland in the year to March 31, 2016.
That brings the amount of council tax collected in Scotland to £35.27 billion between 1993-94 and 2015-16 — about 96.7% of bills issued.
Meanwhile, Scotland’s Council Tax Reduction (CRT) scheme was applied 504,980 low income households in March 2016, with £332.2 million in CRT awarded over the 2015-16 year.
CTR recipients in Scotland make up about one-fifth of chargeable dwellings.
Of all CTR recipients in March 2016:
- 56% were in one of the 30% most deprived areas in Scotland;
- 38% were aged 65 or over
- 16% were lone parents
