Shepherd Chartered Surveyors said the recent sale of a large detached house in Bearsden for £2.42 million has set a new record for a house price in the Glasgow area.
The firm said the sale comes in the wake of East Dunbartonshire being named among the UK’s most prosperous areas in a new report.
Shepherd said the report, the UK Prosperity Index, explored factors including wealth, education, health, crime and the natural environment to draw up a league table of the UK’s most flourishing neighbourhoods.
It said East Dunbartonshire, which includes the affluent areas of Bearsden, Milngavie, Bishopbriggs and Lenzie, was placed ninth in the general order — and second in the UK for quality of education.
Alan Fleming, partner at Shepherd Chartered Surveyors, said: “The housing market has been very strong throughout 2016, with the sub £500,000 market segment proving particularly active.
“That said, a sale has just gone through for a big detached house in Bearsden for £2.42 million, which must be a record for the Glasgow area.
“It’s clear that the overall housing market in Bearsden and Milngavie is very strong with some fantastic sales being achieved – and that can be attributed largely to the location, proximity to good schools and the quality of local amenities.”
Shepherd said the majority of properties in East Dunbartonshire sell at prices above the Home Report valuation, with Bishopbriggs particularly strong.
“The majority of housing stock in Bishopbriggs is priced at sub £500,000 and these have been selling very quickly at closing date, whilst several sales well in excess of £500,000 are expected to conclude before the year end,” said Fleming.
