Glasgow-based media firm STV Group said that Simon Pitts will join STV as chief executive officer on January 3, 2018.
Pitts will join STV from ITV and succeed Rob Woodward, who announced in April 2017 he would step down as CEO within 12 months.
Pitts is a member of the ITV executive board and holds the position of Managing Director, Online, Pay TV, Interactive & Technology.
“Over a 17 year career at ITV plc Simon held a range of senior roles, was one of the main architects of the company’s recent transformation, and oversaw strong growth in ITV’s digital businesses,” said STV.
“Additionally, Simon is currently vice chair of the trustees of the Royal Television Society.”
STV chairman Margaret Ford said: “After a thorough and rigorous search process we are delighted that Simon has agreed to join STV as Chief Executive Officer.
“The combination of Simon’s sector experience, drive and track record in delivering strategic change make him an ideal candidate to lead STV’s next phase of growth.
“I am looking forward to working with him.”
Pitts said: “I have got to know STV well during my time at ITV and I’m excited by the opportunity to lead a company with such a strong brand and relationship with its audience.
“I’m looking forward to working with everyone at STV to make the most of its great potential in the future.”
