Newton Investment Management, part of BNY Mellon Investment Management, announced it hired veteran Scottish fund manager David Cumming and Abrdn portfolio manager Georgina Cooper for its investment team.
Cumming will manage Newton’s UK equity income strategy.
Newton also hired former Redington CEO Mitesh Sheth as chief investment officer of Newton’s £51.7 billion multi-asset business.
With offices in London, New York, Boston and San Francisco, Newton manages about $140 billion of assets.
The CEO of Newton is Euan Munro, the former Standard Life Investments, Aviva Investors and Scottish Provident executive.
“Newton Investment Management, part of BNY Mellon Investment Management, today announces the appointments of Mitesh Sheth, David Cumming and Georgina Cooper to its investment team,” said Newton.
“Mitesh joins as Chief Investment Officer of Newton’s £51.7bn multi-asset business by 1 March, and David and Georgina join Newton Investment Management’s £2.6bn UK equity team in early March and on 1 February, respectively.
“Reporting to Euan Munro, Newton’s chief executive officer, Mitesh will have oversight of Newton’s multi-asset and fixed-income teams based in London, as well as Newton’s quantitative multi-asset solutions team in San Francisco.
“Previously, he served as CEO at Redington, having started at the firm in 2013 as Director of Strategy.
“Mitesh joined Redington from Henderson Global Investors where he was Head of Fixed Income and later Director of Business Innovation. He started his career as a fund manager researcher at AON and WTW.
“David brings significant investment management experience to Newton, having most recently been Chief Investment Officer (CIO) of Equities at Aviva Investors.
“Prior to this, he was Head of Equities at Standard Life Investments.
“David has been an active UK equity manager for more than 35 years and will bring unique perspective and experience to Newton’s UK equity team.
“He will report to John Porter, Newton’s CIO of Equities and will manage Newton’s UK Equity Income strategy / the BNY Mellon UK Income Fund.
“Georgina will join the management team of Newton’s UK Equity and Sustainable UK Opportunities strategies / BNY Mellon UK Equity and BNY Mellon Sustainable UK Opportunities Funds.
“She joins from Abrdn where she was a UK equities portfolio manager, and she will report to Louise Kernohan.”

Charles French, Newton’s head of equity opportunities, will be leaving the company to pursue another opportunity.
Yuko Takano, a portfolio manager in Newton’s global equity team, is also leaving the firm to pursue another opportunity.
