Iberdrola-owned ScottishPower said it is seeking 1,000 recruits next year and has urged workers facing redundancy at the Ineos Grangemouth oil refinery and British construction firm ISG to apply for jobs.
“We are committed to supporting these individuals by offering a job lifeline as we prepare to recruit 1,000 people next year,” said ScottishPower.
“We invite staff from these companies to reach out to us and explore new career opportunities.
“Our focus on hiring is rooted in the clear skills crossover that exists, and we are dedicated to helping individuals transition into our electricity networks business as we ramp up our investment in this critical area.
“With electricity demand projected to double, Britain is undergoing the largest rewiring of its grid in history.
“In September, we proudly announced our plans to double our UK investment to £24 billion, with £11 billion specifically allocated for Scotland.
“This investment is essential as we work to upgrade and build new power lines to meet increasing demand and enhance capacity.
“We recently confirmed £5.4 billion worth of supply chain contracts with UK and Irish businesses, yet we understand that expanding our workforce is also crucial to ensure these vital projects are completed successfully.”
Sarah McNulty, ScottishPower’s People and Organisation Director, said: “The massive investment in electricity networks is not just good for modernising critical Scottish infrastructure but for jobs too.
“This is one of our largest ever recruitment programmes and one of the largest in Scotland. Workers at both Ineos and ISG will have the sought after skills we are looking for and we have the jobs to match.
“We’re also more than happy to look at how we help people make the move into power networks from oil and gas if they’re looking for a career switch so anyone interested should get in touch.
“These are skilled, secure and well-paid roles that will offer a long-term career helping build, operate and maintain the electricity network across central southern Scotland and we also have roles across our renewables business too.
“We recognise it’s a concerning time for people whose livelihoods are affected and that’s why we’ve reached out to the HR teams at both companies to flag our opportunities and help get them into new roles as quickly as possible.”
