RBS-NatWest announced on Tuesday that David Lindberg will join the group as its new CEO, Retail Banking, from Westpac in Australia, where he is currently chief executive of its consumer division.
The appointment is subject to regulatory approval.
Lindberg will report directly to RBS-NatWest CEO Alison Rose and will be a member of the executive committee of NatWest Holdings.
Lindberg’s start date will be announced in due course.
This appointment also confirms that current RBS-NatWest CEO, Personal Banking, Les Matheson, will be stepping down.
Matheson will be returning to Australia where he has strong family ties.
Matheson will remain in his role over the coming months while Lindberg’s start date is finalised and in order for a suitable handover to take place.
RBS, the Royal Bank of Scotland Group, is in the process of changing its name to NatWest Group.
RBS-NatWest is still 62% owned by UK taxpayers following its £45 billion bailout in the 2008 financial crisis.

“We’ve also grown our market share and seen strong improvement on NPS in key strategic areas including mortgages.
“I’d like to thank Les for his years of contribution to the bank”.
