The UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) said it has cleared the anticipated acquisition by William Grant & Sons Group of The Famous Grouse, Naked Malt and affiliated brands from Edrington.
“The full text of the decision will be published shortly,” said the CMA.
Edrington said on September 23 last year it reached an agreement to sell The Famous Grouse and Naked Malt Scotch Whisky brands to William Grant & Sons.
Edrington said the sale, through its subsidiary, The 1887 Company Limited, was subject to customary regulatory approvals, including from the CMA.
Glasgow-based Edrington is also the owner of The Macallan, Highland Park and The Glenrothes.
William Grant’s brands include Glenfiddich, The Balvenie, Grant’s, Drambuie and Hendrick’s gin.
