Martin Dickie, co-founder of Aberdeenshire craft beer empire BrewDog, has told staff he is leaving the business and the alcohol industry.
Dickie started the firm with friend James Watt in 2007. Watt stepped down as chief executive last year.
Dickie recently launched his own medicinal cannabis business.
In a farewell letter sent to staff on Friday morning, Dickie said: “I’m writing to let you know I’ve decided to step away from BrewDog and the wider alcohol industry for personal reasons …
“This business has been my life for the last 18 years, and I have enjoyed (almost) every minute.”
BrewDog CEO James Taylor, BrewDog chief executive, said: “Martin’s contributions to BrewDog have been immeasurable.
“His creativity, passion, and relentless drive have shaped our company over the years and inspired countless others in the industry.
“We would like to thank him for his focus primarily on product quality, new product development, workplace safety and sustainable supplier relationships.
“Martin will always be part of the BrewDog family, and we wish him every success in the future.”
Dickie added: “After over two decades in the brewing and distilling arena sadly for personal reasons it’s time for me to leave the industry that I love deeply and hopefully had a positive impact in …
“Leaving Brewdog isn’t easy, but I’m ready to spend less time travelling and spend some more time at home with my young family.”
