Aberdeen Investments in major appointments

Marianne Zangerl

Aberdeen Investments announced the appointment of London-based Marianne Zangerl as Global Head of Multi Asset and Alternative Investment Solutions.

Zangerl succeeds Darren Wolf, who is leaving Aberdeen “to pursue new opportunities after fourteen years with the business.”

Zangerl will report to Peter Branner, Chief Investment Officer.

Further, Mark Meiklejon is joining Aberdeen Investments from Aviva, as Senior Investment Director, Private Market Solutions, based in Edinburgh.

He will work across a range of private market solutions, including the firm’s Global Private Markets Fund in this newly created role.

Aberdeen Investments manages £385 billion on behalf of clients, including insurance companies, sovereign wealth funds, independent wealth managers, pension funds, platforms, banks and family offices. Aberdeen Group manages and administers £550 billion of client and customer assets across its three core business — interactive investor, Adviser and Investments.

“Marianne has held senior roles at Aberdeen Investments for over ten years, most recently as Deputy Global Head of Fixed Income, where she has focussed on illiquid fixed income, sustainability and business development,” said Aberdeen.

Branner said: “Marianne’s career at Aberdeen shows how exceptional, home‑grown talent can thrive. A proven leader and money manager, she brings deep relevant experience to the multi asset and alternatives team, alongside a strong commercial focus and sustainable finance expertise.

“I would also like to thank Darren for his contribution to the multi asset and alternatives team over the past decade, and more recently, his stewardship of the team. Darren’s leadership has established greater accountability across teams, reflected in the continued strong performance of our £40bn Multi-Asset & Alternatives franchise.”

Zangerl said: “Multi asset investing matters more than ever, at a time when markets are more volatile, correlations less reliable and economic outcomes less predictable. The ability to blend liquid and private markets – from listed assets to alternatives – is crucial to build more resilient portfolios and broaden the drivers of potential returns.

“I’m privileged to be trusted to lead a talented team delivering returns across institutional, wholesale and, increasingly, retail portfolios at a pivotal inflection point. I look forward to driving returns for a diverse range of clients and delivering on the company’s growth ambitions.”

Aberdeen added: “Marianne will be supported in her new role by an exceptional Multi Asset and Alternative Investment Solutions leadership team and portfolio managers, including Nalaka De Silva, Katie Trowsdale, Christopher Carlton and Max Macmillan.

“The team and our track record is strong, with more than 90% of AUM outperforming over 1 year, and more than 70% over 3 years.”
