Crown Estate Scotland reappoints Bidwells

Property consultancy Bidwells announced it has been successful in securing a further tenure as managing agents for Crown Estate Scotland’s coastal portfolio, following a full public procurement exercise.

Crown Estate Scotland was established in 2017 to manage a property portfolio, returning all net revenue to Scottish Government for public spending.

Bidwells said the successful tender process means it “will further manage around half of Scotland’s foreshore and most of its seabed for Crown Estate Scotland from April for an initial three years, with potential extensions of up to seven years.”

Crown Estate Scotland — via Bidwells — manages around half of Scotland’s foreshore and almost all its seabed – and gives permission for a range of activities and developments in those areas.

Bidwells marine team lead Andrew Wood said: “This is a real landmark result for Bidwells and we are looking forward to the continuing successful relationship between our multi-disciplinary team and Crown Estate Scotland.

“We have represented this client for over 23 years, in various forms, and we are delighted to have been successful in this most recent competitive tender process.

“To put the contract in context, the coastal asset entails management of just under half of Scotland’s foreshore, which is approximately 9,000km, and virtually all of the country’s seabed out to the 12NM territorial sea limit.

“Within that area, there are approximately 2,250 coastal leases – covering international port and harbour developments to private domestic outfall pipes – and over 7,000 moorings.

“Our success in winning this contract again is in no doubt founded on the incredible work our highly specialised team does in providing Crown Estate Scotland with a bespoke, focussed service across the length and breadth of Scotland and its islands.”

Bidwells’ project delivery team, comprising 18 specialists and consultants across the country, will commence the coastal asset management contract on April 1, 2024.

Chris Cassels, Head of Asset Management (Property) at Crown Estate Scotland, said: “We’re pleased to extend our successful relationship with Bidwells, and look forward to working with them to deliver for our tenants.”
