Aberdeen-based engineering and consulting giant John Wood Group said 2024 was a “transformative year” for its carbon advisory team, which secured a “record-breaking number of wins” in the past 12 months.
“With solutions being delivered across the globe, from Abu Dhabi, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia to Nova Scotia, Thailand and the UK, the team are building a global footprint to meet increasing demand from Wood’s international portfolio of clients,” said the firm.
“In the Middle East, the team have been supporting a national oil company in its bid to participate in the International Civil Aviation Organization’s Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme, certifying the production of its sustainable aviation fuel, delivering a multi-million-dollar emissions baselining and decarbonisation mapping scope, and supporting the world’s first-ever eco-city by identifying further opportunities for emissions savings as part of a broader decarbonisation roadmap.”
Wood said other global wins included detailing opportunities for Nova Scotia’s industrial sector to adopt green hydrogen as its main source of power to support the region as it progresses towards its net zero ambitions.
Wood’s Executive President for Consulting, Azad Hessamodini, said: “As the world strives to balance the demand for energy and the need to reduce emissions in a long-lasting manner, it’s vital we work with our clients to understand the full picture of their emissions profile to develop pragmatic solutions to reduce emissions through cost-effective that can be verified.”
Over the past 12 months, the team has expanded with several new appointments. The team now comprises 40 members.
Hessamodini added: “2024 has been a tremendous year for our Carbon Advisory offering, as we’ve witnessed significant growth in our target regions of North America and the Middle East.
“Baselining the carbon footprint is the first step needed when companies start to seriously consider decarbonisation strategies. Time after time we witness companies’ action bias lead implementation of carbon abatement technologies with no real clarity of what they are emitting and where.
“With our carbon advisory team, we thoroughly map you’re the client’s carbon footprint and develop the staged blueprints for how they can successfully track progress against tangible, verifiable goals. We work in tandem with Wood’s other business streams to not only give you guidelines to decarbonise but also the tools and support to implement these strategies seamlessly.”
“I’m looking forward to us continuing this growth in 2025 as we work alongside a growing portfolio of clients to understand their needs when it comes to cutting emissions and building out tailored sustainable solutions for them.”
