£430m B Gifford Shin Nippon fund in manager changes

The £430m Baillie Gifford Shin Nippon plc investment trust announced that Brian Lum, deputy portfolio manager, has been appointed as the company’s lead portfolio manager and takes over from Praveen Kumar with immediate effect.

Jared Anderson has been appointed as deputy portfolio manager.

This follows an internal review by Baillie Gifford,” said the Edinburgh investment manager, which manages assets of around £200 billion.

“Brian Lum has 18 years’ experience with Baillie Gifford. Jared Anderson has 8 years’ experience with Baillie Gifford and is co-manager of the Japanese Fund.

“Portfolio manager biographies are set out below. No changes are anticipated to the company’s investment objective or policy, nor to the investment process applied by the Japanese team.”

Brian Lum joined Baillie Gifford in 2006 and is an investment manager in the Japanese Equities Team. He was recently appointed as deputy portfolio manager of Baillie Gifford Shin Nippon and co-manager of the Japanese Smaller Companies Fund.

He is also a member of Baillie Gifford’s International Growth Portfolio Construction Group. He is a CFA Charterholder and graduated with an MSci and BA (Hons) in Physics from the University of Cambridge in 2006.

Jared Anderson joined Baillie Gifford in 2016 and is an investment manager in the Japanese Equities Team. He is co-manager of the Japanese Fund and Japanese Smaller Companies Fund. Before he joined Baillie Gifford he spent two years as an Assistant Economist at the Scottish Government. Anderson graduated MA (Hons) in Economics from the University of Edinburgh in 2012.
