Lanarkshire-based DataVita, a major provider of sustainable data centre solutions, said it is partnering with AI tech giant CoreWeave to bring to life its new £1.5 billion investment in AI infrastructure — believed to be one of the largest technology investments ever made in Scotland.
DataVita, said the announcement, made on Wednesday alongside the US State Visit, is designed to power the next wave of AI innovation, with the selection of DataVita’s Scottish facilities “marking a strategic decision to prioritise sustainability and environmental responsibility.”
DataVita said: “By choosing to deploy its next site in Scotland, CoreWeave will maximise its opportunity to access the plethora of renewable energy already available in the Scottish market.
“The site will be powered by renewable energy, with the move recognising Scotland not just as a prime location for technological advancement, but as the premier choice for sustainable computing.
”The new infrastructure will also set a new standard for water conservation. Scotland’s naturally cool climate, combined with DataVita’s state-of-the-art closed-loop cooling technology, means the data centres will consume minimal water.”
DataVita MD Danny Quinn said: “This partnership is a landmark moment for the UK’s technology and sustainability goals.
“We are proud that our investment in green infrastructure has enabled a partnership with CoreWeave that will deliver the UK’s most sustainable and powerful AI platform. This demonstrates that technological ambition and environmental responsibility can go hand-in-hand, positioning Scotland as the cornerstone of the UK’s green AI future.”
CoreWeave GM Mike Mattacola said: “Our commitment to the UK is not just about providing compute; it’s about ensuring the UK has access to the latest technology to compete on the world stage and we’ve consistently delivered on this since our launch in the UK.
“In DataVita and Scotland, we found the ideal combination of cutting-edge infrastructure and a world-leading renewable energy ecosystem. This allows us to rapidly deliver large-scale AI infrastructure competitively and with the lowest possible environmental impact.”
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said: “Artificial Intelligence will drive incredible change in our country and has the potential to transform our public services and infrastructure.
“This investment by CoreWeave is a clear vote of confidence in Britain’s potential to become a world leader in AI. I’m determined to back innovation and create more highly skilled jobs through partnerships like these, as we deliver on our Plan for Change.”
