Edinburgh’s Sofant Technologies raises £6.25m

Sofant Technologies, the Edinburgh-based radio technology company, announced that it successfully secured £1.1 million in the final close of a £6.25 million round.

Supported by programmes with the European Space Agency and UK Space Agency, Sofant is advancing next-generation satellite communications designed to deliver high-speed, low-latency connectivity with much lower size, weight, power consumption and cost (SWaP-C)—which are major barriers to scaling in both SatCom and defence markets.

“The final close was led by EMV Capital and the round had strong support from Scottish Enterprise, NSSIF, and Kelvin Capital, marking a pivotal moment as Sofant prepares to launch its first commercial products and scale operations globally,” said Sofant.

“Sofant is targeting a $2.6 billion satellite communications market opportunity, and the investment will accelerate Sofant’s transition to commercial production, including field trials with leading satellite communications and defence customers, and expansion of its manufacturing and supply chain capabilities.

“Sofant recently achieved a major industry milestone by successfully demonstrating the world’s first low power antenna system powered by its proprietary RF MEMS beamforming IC.

“This breakthrough proved Sofant’s ability to deliver what others thought impossible—integrating its unique technology into an antenna system that dramatically reduces power consumption, size, and weight when compared to traditional semiconductor-based systems.”
