Vinci’s Edinburgh Airport hits record 17m passengers

Edinburgh Airport, part of France’s Vinci Airports network, said it welcomed a record of almost 17 million passengers in a single year in 2025 — a milestone achieved for the first time ever at a Scottish airport.

Last year, 16,980,588 passengers travelled through Edinburgh Airport.

The growth comes as the airport introduced new routes in 2025. Key highlights included Air Canada introducing a new route to Montréal, JetBlue’s new summer service to Boston, the return of American Airlines’ summer service to Philadelphia, Hainan Airlines’ year-round route to Beijing, and 10 new easyJet routes

The airport has already announced new routes and airlines for 2026, such as American Airlines adding New York to its destinations, as well as extending its Philadelphia service into the winter season, and Luxair entering the Scottish market with its seasonal route to Luxembourg.

This year, the airport is also undersoing a significant expansion project.

In April, 2024, New York-based Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP) agreed to sell a 50.01% stake in Edinburgh Airport to France’s Vinci Airports for £1.27 billion.

The remaining 49.99% interest in Edinburgh Airport continues to be managed by GIP, which agreed in January, 2024, to be bought by BlackRock, the world’s largest asset manager, in a deal worth $12.5 billion.

Edinburgh Airport CEO Gordon Dewar said: “The past year has been a strong one for Edinburgh Airport, reflecting the continued appetite for travel and tourism, both to and from Scotland, with new European and transatlantic routes further strengthening our connectivity.

“As we look to the year ahead, our focus remains on providing even more choice for our passengers, while continuing to invest in the airport and the experience we offer.”
