Murgitroyd, Glasgow IP firm, appoints MD of patents

Glasgow-based global intellectual property law firm Murgitroyd Group has announced the appointment of Barry Moore as managing director of its patents practice.

Moore’s appointment follows Murgitroyd’s recent appointments of Camilla Jagger as chief operating officer, David Goldsby as chief technology officer and Russell Flanders as commercial director.

London-based private equity firm Sovereign Capital Partners LLP took Murgitroyd private from AIM in a £65 million deal in December 2019.

“Barry’s appointment comes at a pivotal moment for Murgitroyd’s 150 strong pan-European patents team, as the firm accelerates investment in talent, technology and client experience,” said Murgitroyd.

“The focus is clear: to build a practice where attorneys lead from the front, develop deeper, more connected client relationships that deliver clarity today and resilience for the challenges of tomorrow.

“For more than 50 years, Murgitroyd has supported organisations at the forefront of innovation.

“Today, clients rely on the firm for strategic guidance across the full patents lifecycle – from invention capture and portfolio development to prosecution, dispute resolution and commercialisation.

“As the pace of technological change accelerates, the firm’s commitment to trusted, long-term relationships has never been more important.”

Moore said: “As our profession navigates rapid technological and regulatory change, one thing remains constant: clients need trusted advisors who understand their business, anticipate their challenges and stand alongside them. Human relationships will always remain at the heart of how we deliver expertise.

“I’m excited to lead a patents team that blends deep technical knowledge with respected commercial insight – building a practice that harnesses the best technology, while ensuring that personal, strategic advice continues to guide and protect our clients’ ambitions.”

Murgitroyd CEO Gordon Stark said: “Barry brings a proven combination of technical depth, commercial understanding and leadership experience.

“His appointment reflects our commitment to investing in our patents practice and ensuring our clients benefit from a team that is not only highly skilled but deeply connected to their needs. We are delighted he has chosen to lead this next phase of growth.”

Murgitroyd added: “Barry joined Murgitroyd in 2021 following the acquisition of Hanna Moore & Curley, the firm he co-founded and helped build into a respected patents practice.

“A Chartered Physicist, European Patent Attorney, Chartered Patent Attorney and Irish Patent and Trade Mark Attorney, he has led Murgitroyd’s Irish team for the past five years, contributing to the firm’s expansion and strengthening its European footprint.”
