Lyon & Turnbull said its Scottish Paintings & Sculpture auction held this week in Edinburgh realised a total of £1.84 million, with 91% of lots sold.

Marking 100 years since Lyon & Turnbull first brought the Scottish Colourists to auction, the sale featured a dedicated section of works by these pioneering artists, whose influence continues to define 20th century Scottish art.

The anniversary collection attracted strong competition from collectors, with F. C. B. Cadell’s Interior: The Lady in Black leading the sale at £189,200, closely followed by S. J. Peploe’s The White Dress at £164,000 and Cadell’s Jean Cadell Among Trees at £145,100.

J. D. Fergusson’s vibrant Edinburgh scene Busy Day, Princes Street achieved £53,120, while G. L. Hunter’s still life Grapes, Lemons and Pomegranates in a Silver Dish with Wine Glasses and a Loaf of Bread realised £66,980.

Among the other standout results were George Henry’s atmospheric By the Lake, which achieved £45,560; Anne Redpath’s Marsh Marigolds in a White Jug, from the collection of the late actor Roger Lloyd Pack, at £38,000; Robert Gemmell Hutchison’s charming Paddling at £20,320 and Jack Vettriano’s Pincer Movement at £38,000.
