Tilney Smith & Williamson expands in Edinburgh

London-based wealth manager Tilney Smith & Williamson, which is re-branding to Evelyn Partners this summer, has further strengthened its presence in Scotland by adding Capital Risk Management’s 10-strong team to its Edinburgh office as well as the owner of Capital Risk Management’s appointed representative firm, MP2 Financial.

Both businesses, currently based in Coates Crescent in Edinburgh, provide financial planning, retirement and investment planning services to individuals, families, businesses and trustees.

As part of the deal, directors Grant Walker and Willie Crockett and eight staff will move into Tilney Smith & Williamson’s office at Atria Two in Morrison Street, Edinburgh.

John Mortimer of Edinburgh-based MP2 Financial Limited will also be joining Tilney Smith & Williamson as part of the move.

Tilney Smith & Williamson had £56 billion of assets under management as at September 2021.

Richard Dawes, Head of Strategic Partnerships at Tilney Smith & Williamson, said: “The agreements we have reached with the teams at Capital Risk Management and MP2 Financial Limited represent the third and fourth deals as part of our succession programme for financial advisers approaching retirement.

“We have had considerable interestin the scheme since we launched it late last yearand invite other advisers who have built their own businesseswho are starting to think about their own succession planning to get in touch.

“The programme allows firms to benefit from the significant investments we have made in recent years to our proposition and technology, while also providing a great new home for their clientsthrough an orderly transition.”

Paul Frame, Regional Managing Partner for Scotland and Northern Ireland at Tilney Smith & Williamson, said: “I am very pleased to welcome Capital Risk Management Limited and MP2 Financial to our Edinburgh office.

“As we prepare to re-brand to Evelyn Partners this summer, this move reinforces our ambition to continue growing our presence in the city while also providing clients with the reassurance that they will continue to receive high quality, personalised service from an experienced and professional team.

“Grant, Willie and the rest of the team at Capital Risk Management and John at MP2 Financial have worked hard to build great businesses over many years and I am delighted they are now joining us.”

Crockett said: “We are proud of the business that we have built up in the last nine years and last year we began to think carefully about the future.

“We have come to recognise the benefits of being part of a bigger group with significant resources.

“We were keen to find a partner with similar values to us and with a commitment to expertise in both financial planning and investment. Having researched the market and met with other companies, we were impressed by the professionalism and ethos of Tilney Smith & Williamson and putting their clients first and felt that they were a natural fit for our clients and staff moving forward.”

Walker said: “Willie and I have given much thought in recent years to the long-term future of the business.

“From the outset, the team at Capital Risk Management has been committed to providing the highest level of expertise and service to all our clients so the bar was high in choosing a long-term home for our clients and colleagues.

“Tilney Smith & Williamson impressed us with their culture and the advantages they can offer our clients from being part of a larger organisation, while allowing us to remain focused on supporting our clients with highly personalised financial advice.”

Mortimer said: “I am delighted to be joining Tilney Smith & Williamson and look forward to working with them over the next two years.

“This move will provide my clients with security in the knowledge that they will benefit from the resources of a national wealth management firm but at a local level as Tilney Smith & Williamson continue to expand throughout Scotland and the rest of the UK.”
