Virgin Money UK names Enda Johnson interim CFO

Enda Johnson

Virgin Money UK said on Monday it appointed Enda Johnson as its interim group chief financial oficer (CFO) with effect from October 15, 2020.

“The company is continuing its search for a permanent CFO and will update the market on its progress as appropriate,” said Virgin Money UK.

“Enda is currently group corporate development director at Virgin Money UK and has been a member of the group’s executive leadership team since 2016.

“During this time he has held roles that have included responsibility for strategy, corporate finance, corporate affairs, financial planning and investor relations.”

Johnson will succeed Ian Smith, who resigned in January and will step down as an executive director on September 30, 2020, and leave the company on October 14.

As an interim appointment, Johnson will not join the board.

Virgin Money UK CEO David Duffy said: “Enda, together with Ian and I, has been instrumental in developing and directing Virgin Money UK’s strategy since the IPO.

“Enda’s broad banking experience and deep knowledge of our business make him a strong appointment as our interim CFO, providing continuity while we continue our search for a permanent CFO.

“I would also like to thank Ian for his leadership, contribution and commitment during his time as CFO and wish him the very best for the future.”

Johnson joined Virgin Money UK in 2015 from Allied Irish Banks plc (AIB) where he was head of strategy and corporate affairs for three years.

Prior to AIB, Johnson was a member of the banking unit at the Irish National Treasury Management Agency (NTMA), where he worked on the recapitalisation and restructure of Irish banks following the global financial crisis and subsequent programme of financial support for Ireland provided by the IMF, ECB and EU in 2010.

Johnson started his career at Merrill Lynch, working in New York, California and London in their investment banking and capital markets divisions on client advisory and equity transactions for global clients on a cross industry basis.

Johnson holds both a BA in Economics and BSc in Engineering from Brown University.
