Business advisory firm Grant Thornton has promoted Debbie Mayor, who leads its transaction advisory service team in Scotland, to director.

Based in the firm’s Edinburgh office, Mayor joined the firm in 2002 as an audit trainee after completing an MA (Hons) in Accountancy and Finance at Heriot-Watt University.

She was previously ranked in Accountancy Age magazine’s “Top 35 under 35.

“She has amassed considerable knowledge and expertise across a number of sectors, including three of the most dynamic and important in Scotland: food & beverage, technology and energy,” said Grant Thornton.

“In 2018 Debbie was part of the team that won Transaction Team of the Year award at the Scottish Business Insider deals awards.

“In her new role she will be responsible for leading and growing the transaction advisory business in Scotland and ensuring the team continues to deliver a high level of service to clients.”

Mayor said: “Since joining Grant Thornton the firm has provided me with lots of exciting opportunities in both my day-to-day role in corporate finance and beyond, enabling me to grow my skills and also make a difference to the wider local and national practice.

“I am truly passionate about our clients and working with them to deliver transactions which allow them to unlock the potential for growth.

“As the firm continues to invest in Scotland, I am looking forward to leading the transaction advisory services practice locally and supporting the growth of our corporate finance business.”

Partner and Head of Corporate Finance in Scotland Neil McInnes said: “Debbie’s promotion is thoroughly well deserved.

“She is a brilliant example of someone who has developed her career to great effect with the firm.

“Our transaction advisory services and corporate finance teams have had another fantastic year.

“We’ve worked alongside some of the country’s most dynamic businesses to support their growth ambitions, further establishing ourselves as a market leader.

“We continue to see positive growth opportunities and are investing in talent at all levels to enable us to do so.

“Debbie’s wealth of experience of both transactions and the Scottish market means she is ideally placed to support the firm in meeting our ambitious growth targets.”
